Plan your transport
On knee-type, bed-type and gantry milling machines, the table position, arms and spindle head change the outer contour. Ask the releasing party to confirm where table and head will be secured for transport, and measure in that state. A data sheet often covers several table sizes in the same series; mark the version you actually have. Retrofitted parts such as a dividing head or measuring system belong on photos, list and enquiry under their own name.
Gantry and bed-type milling machines
Large milling machines are often split into assemblies for transport, such as bed, column and cross rail. Whether and how this is done is decided by the operator or a specialist company they appoint. For our planning we then need a list of assemblies, each with its own dimensions and weight, and the order in which they will be ready.
Securing spindle head and guideways
Spindle, measuring systems and guideways are among the most sensitive parts of a milling machine. The required transport locks are specified in the manufacturer documentation and are fitted by the operator or an appointed specialist company. Let us know when this will be done, and we will align the collection date with it.
What matters
- Give outer dimensions rather than axis travel
- Have the table and head transport position confirmed
- Label tool changer and accessory boxes separately
