Plan your transport

A press rated at 250 tonnes of force may weigh much less or much more; the two figures are unrelated. Use the dead weight from manufacturer documents or the releasing party for your enquiry. Die sets, base, hydraulic power unit and control cabinet belong on the list as separate items, together with whether the dies are already crated. A weight for the base model should not silently include retrofitted parts.

Centre of gravity and press design

C-frame presses often have an off-centre centre of gravity, while straight-side presses are tall and narrow. These differences affect how a press is slung, loaded and secured. Please include the design and any manufacturer data on the centre of gravity. A competent person decides on lifting points based on this data.

Grouping dies and accessories

If several die sets are sold with the press, a list with weight and crate size per set is worthwhile. It shows whether dies can travel with the press or separately. Also note which dies stay with the seller, so there is no discussion on collection day.

What matters

  • Give dead weight rather than press force
  • Include the base frame in the dimensions
  • Inventory each die set with its weight
